The paramedics in Canada has the NOC code of 3234 and it is a skill level B. This is an information that you certainly need for you to easily immigrate to Canada as a paramedic.

Let’s look at some of the popular immigration programs you can go through to immigrate to Canada as a paramedic.

  • The Express Entry System

The Express Entry System is an online program where you will have to create an online profile and fill some information based on the requirements of the program. You can actually get permanent residence through this immigration program and it is the fastest and quickest immigration system as it takes as short as 6months to process.

In this program, having a job offer is not necessarily important but as a paramedic, it will increase your chances of being selected under this program. There are some requirements you will have to meet when creating and completing your online profile and some of the requirements are education, work experience, language proficiency and proof of sufficient funds.

You are expected to complete your profile within 60days and after this you will be placed in a draw with some other applicants and you will be ranked using a Comprehensive Ranking System where you will be given a score to rank against the CRS cut-off score and for you to be selected, you will have to meet or exceed the CRS cut-off score as applicants that exceed the CRS cut-off score will be selected to get an Invitation to Apply for permanent residence in Canada.

There are times where there would be a tie that is, two applicants might have the same score and so a tie-breaking rule will be used to select an applicant and this rule states that “if two applicants have the same score, the applicant that completes his or her profile earlier will be chosen ahead of the other”. So you see why you should try to complete your profile even before the deadline.

Another interesting thing about this system is that even if you are successful at the first time of your application, you have a chance to apply again as the Express Entry draw is done twice in a month as you will have to improve your CRS score to increase your chances of being selected in the next draw.

Under this program, there are three federal immigration streams and they are:

  • Federal Skilled Trades Program
  • Federal Skilled Worker Program
  • Canadian Experience Class

As a paramedic, you are going to fall under the Federal Skilled Worker Program as paramedic is a highly skilled profession and so you can easily immigrate to Canada through the Express Entry System under this federal program. Like we mentioned earlier, under the FSWP, this healthcare workers fall under the NOC code 3234 and a skill level B and this means you are eligible to apply as a skilled worker under the Federal Skilled Worker Program.

You will have to meet some requirements in other to be eligible for the FSWP and they are:

  • You must have an education certificate of high school diploma or degree from secondary school or post-secondary school in Canada and if you have a foreign certificate, it must be equivalent to the Canadian standard and so you will have to go through the Educational Credential Assessment to check the credentials.
  • Completed a three-year college program, paramedical or emergency medical emergency program
  • You must have a paid skilled work experience of at least one year in skill level B of (30hours/week) for full-time and for part-time it could be (15hours/week)
  • You must prove that you have sufficient funds to help you settle in Canada and also take care of any other family member coming with you unless you have a valid job offer
  • You must take the approved language test in English or French in writing, speaking, listening or reading and you must get a minimum score of the Canadian Language Benchmark (CLB) 7 in all abilities
  • The Provincial Nominee Program

This program is designed for the provinces in Canada and this helps the provinces and territories to nominate foreign skilled workers to be invited to fill up labour shortages in the province. The program is initiated by the Canadian government through the Immigration, Refugees and Citizenship Canada (IRCC) in conjunction with the provinces in Canada.

In this program, each of the provinces set its own requirements to meet its economic needs and fill up labour shortages in the province. Through this program, employers in the province are able to hire foreign workers to come fill up labour shortages.

As a paramedic, you can get nominated to get permanent residence in the country as long as you prove to be competent enough to contribute to the growth and development of the province and that you are willing and ready to work. You should know that the province doesn’t give you permanent residence, you only get nominated by the province to get permanent residence and so a nomination from a province in Canada will give you 600points which will boost your score from the Express Entry system and bring you closer to getting an Invitation to Apply for permanent residence in Canada.
