Staying consistent with a task or a goal can be very difficult sometimes. This is because there are lots of pressure and sometimes difficulties associated with the journey towards achieving something. Whether the goal you want to achieve is a small one or a big goal, you need to be consistent towards achieve it. Consistency has to do with been motivated to continually put in effort in a project on a daily basis.
When I was younger, I was fond of quitting my personal projects within the first few years of starting it up. In fact, I have actually stopped over 10 projects along the way and ended up achieving nothing for about 6 years. This is because I wasn’t seeing progress in the first few months and that didn’t motivate me to continue.
My friends on the other hand, shared similar experience and I came to realize that this is the typical characteristics of most teenager trying to achieve something for the first time. Even though we were aware of other people that have worked on similar projects and have succeeded, yet we found it very difficult to complete ours.
Few years ago, I came across a popular bloggers achievement and observed how long it took her to achieve such success. I checked when she started blogging and found out it was same year I started my first blog. Recall that I ended my first blog in the first year of establishment, but she kept on moving hers and been consistent. After 6 years, her blog started gaining more attention and success was hers and I was still on the same position trying to start up blogs and still close them within a short time.
Her story motivated me to start a new blog project and I have been on this project for the past few years now. The first year was very stressful for me, but I started seeing more positive results from the second year. From my experience, I will like to share some of the ideas I learnt throughout my journey of been consistent and how I was able to use the same idea on other personal projects.
Tips On How To Stay Consistent While Doing Something
Here are some of the tips that helped me stay consistent towards achieving my goals:
Keep your eyes on the reason
The first step towards been consistent is keeping your eyes and mind on the reason behind the project. Maybe you want to start a blog project, a business/company or you are reading for an examination, you should be aware of how the end product of such action will be and you should keep reminding yourself of it. This will help you stay motivated and consistent with your actions.
Set a single goal and stick to it
The easiest and most effective way of loosing consistency and motivation to carry out a project is by sticking to multiple projects at the same time. You need to build the habit of working on a single goal at a time. Ones your first project or goal have achieved success, you can start a new project to supplement it.
Model a strategy on how you intend achieving the goal
The third step towards been consistent on your goals is by modelling a clear strategy that will guide you on what to do at a particular time. You need to model a step by step plan on how you intend achieving your goal. This plan should be easy to accomplish and must be realistic.
Work in bits and dont over stress yourself
After modelling a strategy, you need to work on this goal in bit and avoid making it a pressure filled or pain staking goal to achieve. For example, if your goal is to achieve a big blog in six years time, you can set your daily plan as uploading a unique content daily for the next six years, or uploading three contents weekly for the next 6 years. At the end of 6 years, you should be having lots of content available on your blog for your readers.
Understand that time is a key factor for results to show up
In everything we do, we need to acknowledge that time is a major factor and we need to know how to manage it properly. Also, there are some projects that require lots of time to achieve success on it. We need to be aware of the type of project we are working on and how long it can take for it to be successful.
Track your progress
As you work towards your goals, you need to learn how to track your progress. Depending on the project, most times, the progress might not be visible in the first few months. You need to continue pushing forward and also celebrate the little progress you observed.
